SUPPORT - YOU ARE NOT ON YOUR OWN: We at Ciaran Carey Counselling Services provide a weekly Family Support Group where we provide the support and help for family members/friends to heal and rebuild relationships. Our Family Support Group can help you reduce the affects of addiction, identify how the addictive behaviours are affecting you and your family and most importantly help you to find ways to cope and take care of yourself.

HOW ADDICTION AFFECTS THE FAMILY.  Do you feel at a loss when seeing a loved one caught in the grips of substance abuse?  The role of family in addiction recovery is very important.  Where once your home was a peaceful, safe, loving home because of your addicted  loved one is now a home divided by strain. Tensions run high and conflict becomes  the norm. Trust begins to erode. Marriages can end due to the changes caused by addiction. Arguing between family members. Communication becomes more difficult, highlighting frustration.  Partners/spouses may feel deeply betrayed or abandoned. Children may feel insecure or unloved and some may feel that the use is their fault.

THE NEGATIVE IMPACTS ON THE FAMILY:

Members of family take on different roles and behaviour.

Frustration/anger

Stress/anxious

Strained relationships

Emotional stress

Physical abuse

Unhealthy communication patterns

Financial hardships

Poor school performance

Reckless behavior within the home

Stealing money to support a habit

Parental grief
